Plas yn Rhiw BioBlitz
A Bioblitz is a race against time to record the variety of wildlife found in a specific location. Join us on Friday June 2nd at Plas yn Rhiw to help us record as many wildlife sightings as possible.
Between 10am and 5pm there will be an opportunity to call in at the Bioblitz basecamp at Plas yn Rhiw to learn more about the species we’re hoping to find during the day and take part in wildlife themed craft activities. This is also where Cofnod the local record centre will be set up busy entering all the records online so that we’ve got a running total of the different species spotted throughout the day.
A full timetable of activities have been planned with an array of wildlife experts ensuring we’ve explored as many of the different habitats found in the area as possible. All activities are free.

7am - Dawn chorus walk
One for the early risers - meet at the base camp in Plas yn Rhiw. An opportunity to learn how to identify birds from their song and appreciate nature at the break of day.
9.30am – Boat trip
The first boat trip of the day - Leaving at Rhuol, an opportunity to search for marine wildlife out at sea and along the coastline. Booking essential.

10am – Marine Mammals
A marine mammal watch with Dawn Thomas & North Wales Wildlife Trust, see if you can spot any cetaceans out in Cardigan Bay.
10am – Moths
Take a look at some of the moths in Plas yn Rhiw with the team from Llen Natur.
11am – Lichens
Learn more about lichens with Judith Hedges, use the Plas yn Rhiw lichen trail and see how many you can find.
11:30am – Spiders
Join Richard Gallon from the British Arachnological Society on a guided walk introducing you to different spiders and their interesting behaviours.
12pm – Reptiles & Invertebrates
Go for a walk with Ben Porter searching for reptiles and invertebrates around Plas yn Rhiw.
12:30pm – Shoresearch
Go on a shoresearch with North Wales Wildlife Trust to discover just how many species can inhabit our coastline.
1:30pm - Orchid count, ferns and plants
Join Jo Porter on the annual orchid count in the orchard, and a plant recording walk around the woodland with a focus on ferns.
2pm – Chough & Bird Walk
Chough and bird walk with Jack Slattery of the RSPB. Take a walk along the coast in search of Choughs and other birds.
3pm - Honeybees
Go on a short walk and talk with John Rhys, a beekeeper who has hives across Llyn, including Plas yn Rhiw.
4pm - Walk with the gardeners
Go for a tour around the gardens at Plas yn Rhiw with the gardeners who take care of them and learn about how gardening can benefit nature.

Cymuned Llên Natur
Join Duncan Brown, Bruce Hurst, Dominic Kervegant, Hywel Madog and Kristen Kelly to look at the various moths caught in the moth trap.
